A roadsi\u00adde unit acts eit\u00adher only as a trans\u00admit\u00adter or as a trans\u00admit\u00adter and recei\u00adver at the same time and can be used in dif\u00adfe\u00adrent ways depen\u00adding on the use&nbsp;case.<\/p>\n<p>Ope\u00adra\u00adting only as a trans\u00admit\u00adter, a RSU sends infor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon about the cur\u00adrent signal sta\u00adte of a traf\u00adfic light (SPaT) and road topo\u00adlo\u00adgy of the respec\u00adti\u00adve inter\u00adsec\u00adtion (MAP). This infor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon sup\u00adports auto\u00adma\u00adted vehic\u00adles in safe\u00adly crossing an intersection.<\/p>\n<p>As a trans\u00admit\u00adter and recei\u00adver at the same time, a RSU with return chan\u00adnel can addi\u00adtio\u00adnal\u00adly recei\u00adve data from vehic\u00adles and for\u00adward it to the traf\u00adfic signal sys\u00adtem for pro\u00adces\u00adsing. This func\u00adtion\u00ada\u00adli\u00adty is nee\u00added, for exam\u00adp\u00adle, to acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adte public trans\u00adport buses or to prio\u00adri\u00adti\u00adze emer\u00adgen\u00adcy vehic\u00adles. Due to the lack of stan\u00addar\u00addiza\u00adti\u00adon, it is not yet pos\u00adsi\u00adble to pre\u00addict which tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy will pre\u00advail in Euro\u00adpe in the future. This enables auto\u00adma\u00adted vehic\u00adles to loca\u00adte them\u00adsel\u00adves at the inter\u00adsec\u00adtion and assign the valid signal image to the respec\u00adti\u00adve&nbsp;lane.<\/p>\n<p>The SPaT file (Signal Pha\u00adse and Timing) con\u00adta\u00adins the cur\u00adrent signal of a traf\u00adfic light, which can be trans\u00admit\u00adted digi\u00adtal\u00adly by the roadsi\u00adde unit. In addi\u00adti\u00adon to the visi\u00adble per\u00adcep\u00adti\u00adon by vehic\u00adle came\u00adras, a second red\u00adun\u00addant signal is thus available to the auto\u00adma\u00adted vehic\u00adles. This is nee\u00added, for exam\u00adp\u00adle, if the came\u00adra image can\u00adnot be reli\u00aded on in poor visi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons. For TEMPUS it regards the City of Munich respon\u00adsi\u00adble for the urban area as well as the Bava\u00adri\u00adan Sta\u00adte Con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion Direc\u00adto\u00adra\u00adte respon\u00adsi\u00adble for the sur\u00adroun\u00adding area of Munich. As dif\u00adfe\u00adrent road types are assi\u00adgned to the two admi\u00adnis\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adve levels (for exam\u00adp\u00adle urban roads, fede\u00adral roads, high\u00adways), the use cases can be tes\u00adted under a wide varie\u00adty of traf\u00adfic situa\u00adtions and con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons within the frame\u00adwork of TEMPUS.
